Dr. Dominick Catania is a board-certified periodontist and implant specialist providing advanced periodontal and surgical care at Blake J. Thompson, DMD, P.A. in Sun City Center. As a key clinical leader within the practice, he works closely with Dr. Thompson and Dr. Farrell to deliver comprehensive, coordinated treatment for patients requiring both surgical and restorative care.
Dr. Catania specializes in dental implants, bone grafting, periodontal disease treatment, and soft tissue procedures, helping patients restore both the health and function of their smiles. His advanced training allows him to manage complex cases, including patients who have been told they may not be candidates for implants due to bone loss or periodontal concerns.
A unique advantage of the practice is the ability to provide in-house periodontal and implant surgical care, allowing for seamless collaboration between surgical and restorative phases of treatment. Dr. Catania plays an integral role in guided implant placement and full-arch implant cases, working alongside the team as part of their New Teeth Now partnership to deliver predictable, long-term results.
Dr. Catania earned his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from the University of Florida College of Dentistry before completing a rigorous three-year residency in periodontics and oral surgery, where he also obtained a Master of Science degree. During his residency, he conducted research on the relationship between periodontal disease and dental implants, which was published in a peer-reviewed journal.
He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology, a distinction that reflects advanced achievement and recognition by his peers beyond standard specialty training.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Catania is passionate about education and serves as a part-time faculty member at the University of Florida College of Dentistry, where he lectures and trains future dental professionals. He remains actively involved in continuing education and stays current with the latest advancements in periodontal and implant therapy.
Dr. Catania is a member of the American Dental Association, Florida Dental Association, Florida Association of Periodontists, American Academy of Periodontology, West Coast District Dental Association, and Hillsborough County Dental Association.
Originally from Fort Lauderdale, Dr. Catania has lived in the Tampa area since 2012 with his wife Katherine and their three daughters. Outside of the office, he enjoys spending time with his family, being outdoors, and taking advantage of Florida’s beaches, parks, and natural scenery.
